Every year\'s November 1 is Halloween.October 31 is usually named Halloween eve.Whenever Halloween eve arrives, the children can put on colorful clothes impatiently, put on all sorts of strange and unusual masks, hand one “Jack-O-Lantern” to walk around, ask adults the for gifts.The symbols that people know most about Halloween are “the Jack-O-Lantern” and “trick or treat”.

Origin

There are many editions about the origin of Halloween.Generally speaking, Halloween derives from the ancient West Europe before the born of Christ.The people there are called Druitt.Druitt’s New Year’s Day is in November first.The night before the New Year’s Day, young peoples get together ,wearing all kinds of unusual masks ,taking the lamps made of turnips(萝卜),walk around the villages.In fact this is a kind of celebration after harvest.They believe the souls of the death people will come back .So people show the harvest and treat them.The campfire and the lamps are used to make them fear guide their return.“Jack-O-Lantern”

The “Jack-O-Lantern” is from Ireland.It’s said that there were a people called Jack, He was very mean, so when he dead, he couldn’t go to the heaven.Because he had laughed at devil(魔鬼), he couldn’t go to the inferno, so he could only wandered everywhere with a lantern until the day of judgment.Then Jack and the lantern become the representative of the souls who are cursed(诅咒).People carve turnips or potatoes into horrible face to represent Jack to drive other souls away.This is the origin of “Jack-O-Lantern”.It is said that when the people come to America from Ireland, They find that the pumpkin is easier to carve, so they use pumpkin instead of others to make “Jack-O-Lantern”.
