Before my free talk,I would want to ask you to gue who I will talk about today. He is a writer who win the firstNobel Prize in Literature[ˈlitəritʃə]of China. He is one of the most known Chinese writer, and he is known in the West for two of his novels which were the basis of the film Red Sorghum[ˈsɔ:gəm] .So can you gue?Yes,he is Mo yan, everyone knows him.
IN 1917, Chen Duxiu, a Chinese revolutionary[ˈrevəˈlu:ʃənəri] , asked: “Pray, where is our Chinese Hugo[ˈhju:ɡəu] , Zola[\'zəulə], Goethe[ˈɡə:tə] , ,Dickens[ˈdikinz]or Wilde[waild]?”
China has long fretted that it lacked a great modern literary voice with international appeal. In the decades since Mao the tendency has transmogrified[trænz\'mɒgrɪfaɪ into a full-blown “Nobel complex”.
Almost a century later, Chen’s plea has been answered.Last year a Chinese writer, Mo Yan, won the 2012 Nobel prize for works described by the Swedish Academy[ə\'kædəmi] as “\"who with hallucinatory[hə\'lusənətɔri] realism merges folk tales, history and the contemporary ”
Mr Mo has not only broken the streak of European writers who have dominated the Nobel Prize in recent years. He is being hailed as the first Chinese citizen[\'sɪtɪz(ə)n] to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Mr Mo was born with the name Guan Moye in 1955, into a peasant household in Gaomi, Shandong province, in north-eastern China. His parents were farmers. As a twelve-year-old the during Cultural Revolution he left school to work, first in agriculture , later in a factory. In 1976 he joined the People\'s Liberation Army and during this time began to study literature and write. His first short story was published in a literary journal in 1981.Mr Mo is best known for “Red Sorghum”, an epic spanning three generations, starting with the Japanese invasion in the 1930s—which was eventually made into a film directed by Zhang Yimou.
In fact, the evaluation ofMo Yan is mixed. But I think it is normal.A people who win a important prize always get many evaluation, and it must be various. And then, back to my title. My free talk’s title is“In China, a Writer Finds a Deep Well”.This short sentence is selected from a article in a foreign newspaper. This article introduced Mo Yan’s works’style. It says ”Humorous is one way to describe Mo Yan’s sentences.”His article is not only funny,it also satirized all aspects of the social life centering by a clew on characters\' activities. That’s why Mo Yan’s book is worth to reading and thinking about.
These are some of Mo Yan’s book,If you are intersted in it,you can buy It and read.
