The Opening Ceremony of International Symposium on Biological Diversity for Sustainable Development in 2010

Distinguished leaders, dear guests, national experts, scholars, teachers and students of Yunnan Agricultural University:

Hello everybody! On the occasion of the opening of the international Conference of the biodiversity for sustainable development, on behalf of the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Provincial People\'s Government, I expre warm congratulations to the opening of this proseminar.Biological diversity is the base of the human being survival and

development .Agricultural biological diversity is an important component of biodiversity, and is closely related to human survival.Conservation of agricultural biodiversity will contribute to maintaining ecological balance, ensuring food security and promoting the sustainable development of human society.China is one of 12 countries with the world\'s richest biodiversity, and is one of the world\'s eight crops origin centers of and the four crop genetic resources centers.With various types of terrestrial ecosystems and the richest special resources in the Northern Hemisphere, China is the biological gene bank in the Northern Hemisphere.The

Chinese government iued the \"China Biodiversity Conservation Action Plan\" in 1994, and in 2010 amended timely the \"China Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and Action Plan (2011-2030),\" which of these

policies has played an important role in strengthening international cooperation, promoting conservation and sustainable use of China

biological diversity.Yunnan is the natural treasure house and biodiversity resource of China .With varied climate and ecosystem types tropical to frigid zones for different habitats species to survive, species resources are very rich in Yunnan and enjoy the reputations ofthe \"Kingdom of Plants\", \"Animal Kingdom\", \"genetic treasure\" in the world.It’s one of the natural gene bank of the genetic material with important scientific value, economic value, environmental value and aesthetic value in China and even the world.Yunnan Province have responded positively to the party central committee strategy for biodiversity conservation, made relevant policies and done a lot of work in biological diversity conservation.

Currently, the situation of biodiversity conservation is very serious, a large number of scientific reports have confirmed the seriousne: \"Millennium Ecosystem Aement\" shows that nearly two-thirds of the global ecosystem function has been lost.Just within thirty years, the species diversity decreased by 40% on average.Biodiversity conservation has been an international problem which we all mankind face together andcan not be avoided, it is closely related to human survival and directly determines the future of our humanity.

The year of 2010 is established as the International Year for Biological Diversity by the United Nations, which aims to promote global biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.Yunnan

Agricultural University, take advantage of Yunnan Province diversity of biological resources and cooperate with domestic and foreign-related institutions, having done a lot of research work in the conservation of biological diversity and made gratifying achievements.Therefore, the \"biological diversity for sustainable development\" International Conference held by Yunnan Agricultural University will have a very positive and practical significance.Ladies and gentlemen, my dear friends, we believe that your participation will contribute to further development of China\'s

biodiversity research, expand the influence of Yunnan Province with advantages of biological diversity, and promote international cooperation and exchange.We believe that with common philosophy, conscious actions, relentle pursuit through the joint efforts of national experts, academics and people will be able to promote the constant protection of biological diversity and harmony between man and nature.Will be able to rich the interpretation \"Biodiversity is our life\".
